Every expense splits equally across everyone currently in the group, largest-remainder exact, the same method the split calculator uses. Across several expenses, each person's balance is what they paid minus their share of everything, which can leave them owed money overall, owing money overall, or exactly settled. The fewest-payments step then matches the person owed the most against the person owing the most, repeating until the whole group is settled, the same idea behind settle up and debt simplification. Nothing typed here is sent anywhere. It runs in the browser, and the shareable link carries only the names and expenses you chose to put in it.
